Eczema, also known as dermatitis, is a common inflammatory skin condition that affects millions of persons across the globe. Eczema causes the skin redness, itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing, or bleeding. The cause of eczema is unknown but is presumed to be a combination of genetic and environmental factors. If you’re reading this article, I will share with you a few natural home remedies for eczema.
1. Changing your eating habits
Diet plays a huge role in the health of your skin, so a few simple changes could lead to a significant improvement in your eczema. Regular fluid ingestion is vital for keeping the body and skin hydrated. Strive to drink 8 oz of water daily. Eat more foods rich in essential fatty acids like omega-3s, which help reduce inflammation and allergic reactions. You’ll find these in rich amounts in walnuts, avocados, salmon, mackerel, and tuna. In addition, cow’s milk is the most common dietary trigger for eczema, so it is worth cutting it out of your diet (at least temporarily) to see if you notice an improvement.
2. Apply calendula lotion
The flowers of the Calendula officinalis, or pot marigold plant, are used to treat a number of skin conditions, including eczema. It is reputed to have skin healing properties, while also reducing pain and inflammation. Many calendula products, such as soaps, oils, lotions, salves and creams can be found at health food stores. Simple make a tea of calendula, a marigold flower, with five drops of lavender essential oil added, then apply to the affected area twice a day until the irritation is relieved. Calendula products can be applied liberally all over the skin, as they are not known to produce any negative side effects when applied topically.
3. Honey for eczema

4. Aloe Vera for eczema
Another popular home cure for eczema scars is aloe vera. Many people have found it effective in the treatment of eczema, as it soothes itchiness and moisturizes the dry, flaky skin. You can combine aloe vera gel and vitamin E oil to form a thin paste and apply it to the scarred skin. Leave it on overnight and in the morning wash it off with warm water. Gels from freshly cut aloe vera leaves are optimum.
5. Olive Oil for eczema
As far back as the ancient Greeks, olive oil has been used to treat dry skin. Olive oil has powerful anti-inflammatory effects that can soften the skin and reduce redness. It is safer to use than other oils you would find on the market because it is all-natural and very few people are allergic to it. It also contains Vitamin E which may prove helpful as a natural cure for most skin conditions. For treating eczema scars be sure to use extra virgin olive oil. If olive oil is not available, then coconut oil can also be used.
Try chamomile. Chamomile may ease the itching of eczema and other rashes and reduces skin inflammation. It may also speed healing and prevent bacterial infection. You can make chamomile tea by brewing dried chamomile flowers in boiling water for approximately 15 minutes. Strain the flowers and allow the tea to cool slightly, then apply to the eczema area with gauze for 10-20 minutes. Test it on a small patch of skin or consult a qualified practitioner before using, because chamomile is known to cause allergic contact dermatitis.
It is important to remember that the scars will not vanish in a day or two. You’ll need to be patient before you start noticing a difference.
