Athlete’s foot (also known as ringworm of the foot and tinea pedis) is a fungal infection affecting the skin over the feet and between toes. Most cases are mild and can be treated at home. The following ways for athlete’s foot cure.
1. Tea Tree Oil
The most common home remedy for athlete’s foot is tea tree oil. Studies have found tea tree oil is an antiseptic and has the ability to kill many bacteria and fungi. Add 40 Drops of Tea Tree Oil to a foot bath and soak your feet for 10 minutes. After soaking and thoroughly drying the feet, massage a few drops of the oil directly into the affected area.
2. Garlic for athlete’s foot cure
Because garlic is antifungal, it can help clear up athlete’s foot. Just boiling several cloves of garlic in hot water, letting it cool to a comfortable temperature and then soaking your feet in the garlic water.
3. Grapefruit Seed Oil
Mix in a clean glass jar, 10 drops of grapefruit seed extract oil to 1 cup of water. With a cotton ball, apply to affected area. To supplement this treatment, add 10 drops to the washing machine when cleaning socks or other clothing. This is very effective. Treat for about 7 days or as needed.
4. Vinegar for athlete’s foot cure
Soak your feet in equal parts vinegar (white or apple cider) and water for fifteen minutes twice a day, this creates a very acidic environment in which the fungus cannot live. Dry your feet thoroughly after each soak.
5. Ginger for athlete’s foot cure
You can use ginger, just an ounce of fresh chopped ginger added to a cup of boiling water and simmered for 20 minutes. Once cooled, apply twice daily to clean feet. Ginger is a strong anti-fungal, and your feet will have a pleasantly spicy smell.
Tips and Warnings:
1. Consult your doctor if this is the first time you’ve had athlete’s foot or if the symptoms persist or worsen.
2. Wash your hands after touching your feet to avoid spreading the infection to other parts of your body.
3. Sanitize any surfaces that your bare feet come into contact with to avoid infecting others and re-infecting yourself.
4. To prevent reoccurrences, sprinkle baking soda inside your shoes each night. This will help to dry up any moisture – something fungus needs to thrive.
These are some tips on how to prevent reinfection:
•Keep your feet thoroughly dry, especially between your toes.
•Wear cotton socks. Be sure to wear a fresh pair each day.
•Avoid tight, closed-toe shoes. Moisture and heat cause the athlete’s foot fungus to thrive.
•Don’t go barefoot in public places. Wear flip-flops.
•Use a foot powder to keep feet dry.
•Wash socks in the hot water setting of the washing machine.
